Hardware Recommendations for Houdini
Similar to Nuke and After Effects, Houdini is a 3D modeling and VFX package from Side FX that is frequently used as a plug-in with applications like Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, and 3DS Max. It is perfect for effects like fire, smoke, and fluids since it has strong simulation capabilities and is frequently used for character animation. With its excellent viewport integration and generative, node-based pipeline, artists can swiftly refine their work by quickly iterating and creating several versions of a scene with varying effects.
Processor

What you plan to use it for will determine which CPU works best with Houdini. Since most modeling and animation applications only require one core, a high-clockspeed CPU from the AMD Ryzen 9 or Intel Core i9 family would be perfect. These CPUs may accommodate a limited amount of system memory, but they also feature a decent number of cores, which is useful while working on simulations.
CPU-based rendering can also use a lot of cores effectively, but for all but the largest scenes, you will get faster rendering with a GPU-based rendering engine instead. See the next section for more information about that.
Memory needs for severe simulation workloads may reach 128 or higher, especially when performing many simulations at once. A more powerful workstation with a higher-core processor is required to support that much RAM. Higher core counts are also available for such CPUs, and more cores can be used by some simulation programs, particularly fluid dynamics, to boost performance.
Memory (RAM)
Although the exact amount of RAM you require will vary depending on your specific projects, we usually advise at least 32GB for Houdini. Very complex scenes may need up to 64GB of RAM, although it is rare for Houdini to require more than 64GB.
In extreme cases, if you will be doing a large amount of complex, high-resolution rendering, you may need 128GB or even more RAM.

Video Card (GPU)

The viewport, as well as any animation and effects that are displayed in it, are displayed by the video card in Houdini. Here, we often suggest NVIDIA's GeForce series of video cards since they provide the best value in terms of performance and dependability. For the majority of users, we believe the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 SUPER to be excellent entry-level options, while the RTX 4080 and 4090 provide extra onboard memory for those who require it.
Storage Device
Primary Drive: OS/Software (SSD/NVMe): Includes your operating system and the base Houdini installation. An SSD is highly recommended as it will greatly improve how fast the OS and programs startup, but you can also upgrade to a faster NVMe drive for a small performance benefit. The recommended storage for the installation of software is not more than 10 GB.
Since the primary drive will primarily be used to store Windows and software, including all software (except large Game), it doesn't need to be that large for the majority of users; a 500GB SSD will be enough for Drive C.
Secondary Drive: Project Files (Platter/SSD/NVMe) Having a second storage (either SSD or HHD) for storing assets and effects is a wonderful alternative if you have additional money to spend or keep a lot of them around for use on different projects. Of course, an internal or external hard drive is a more cost-effective option than a high-capacity SSD if you need more mass storage and preservation.
