Hardware Recommendations for Twinmotion
Epic has a list of system requirements for Twinmotion, just like most software developers do, but sadly, it is not very specific. Rather than focusing on particular CPU and GPU models, they highlight some key considerations (e.g., VRAM capacity) that are relevant to a single element of performance. We have added to their knowledge with our own study into what Twinmotion actually needs for the best performance in order to help provide more accurate recommendations.
Processor
A CPU with a moderate number of cores and a high clock speed is ideal for Twinmotion. This roughly resembles what Unreal Engine requires, which makes sense given that both were created by Epic and have many of the same traits. These specifications are well met by top-tier CPUs from AMD's Ryzen and Intel's Core product lines; the best choices are AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and Intel Core i9 13900K.
There are two primary standards for CPUs that determine their capabilities: Firstly, the frequency has a direct impact on the number of operations (or speed) that a single CPU core can perform in a second. The quantity of physical cores in a CPU, or the number of simultaneous processes it can do, is known as its core count.
Memory (RAM)
While Epic states that Twinmotion requires a minimum of 16GB, most users won't get the best experience if they are using the very minimum. For the majority of our clients, we advise 64GB since it satisfies Epic's "high-end requirements," but 32GB should work just fine for smaller projects. Remember that any additional programs you use in combination with Twinmotion will also require memory space.
We typically advise a minimum of 32GB of RAM for all of our systems, while exactly how much you require will depend on the size and complexity of the model you will be using. However, we believe that 64GB is a decent starting point because of the relatively low cost of RAM and the fact that most users typically have more apps open on their PC than just Twinmotion.
Video Card (GPU)
In Twinmotion, the actual 3D model visualization on the screen is handled by the graphics card. Your projects should be more powerful the more complex they are. You will typically get higher Twinmotion performance the faster your graphics card is. VRAM, or graphics card memory, is extremely essential, particularly when presenting complex designs. The fastest GPU available for Twinmotion right now is the GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, although if cost is a concern, the RTX 4080 with 16GB or the 4070 SUPER with 12GB are both excellent options.
Due to its Twinmotion design to operate with a dual monitor arrangement, this class of video card will also handle multiple outputs. Also, DisplayPort is the most popular output format on modern video cards, so check to make sure your screens have the right inputs, or if not, try to pick up any adapters you may need ahead of time.
Storage Device
Primary Drive: OS/Software (SSD/NVMe): Includes your operating system and the base Twinmotion installation. An SSD is highly recommended as it will greatly improve how fast the OS and programs startup, but you can also upgrade to a faster NVMe drive for a small performance benefit. The recommended storage for installation of software is not more than 10 GB.
Since the primary drive will primarily be used to store Windows and software, including all software (except large Game), it doesn't need to be that large for the majority of users; a 500GB-1TB SSD will be enough for Drive C.
Secondary Drive: Project Files (Platter/SSD/NVMe) Having a second storage (either SSD or HHD) for storing assets and effects is a wonderful alternative if you have additional money to spend or keep a lot of them around for use on different projects. Of course, an internal or external hard drive is a more cost-effective option than a high-capacity SSD if you need more mass storage and preservation.
